Success
Stories
When Sara Seed burst onto the scene at the Champaign
County Convention and Visitors Bureau in October 1999, her first
assignment as IHSA Event Coordinator was to oversee C-U's first-ever
Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Football Championships.
In five short weeks, Sara not only orchestrated this event successfully,
but also put the community in a position to bid on future IHSA
state finals. This opportunity came to fruition when a five-year
deal was inked between the CVB, IHSA and the University of Illinois
for both IHSA State Football and Wrestling Championships. The
economic impact of both these events is tremendous with revenues
estimated at $500,000 to $1 million each.
In August
2000, Sara was appointed Director of Sports and Special Events.
In this position, she worked with business and community leaders,
as well as University of Illinois officials, to attract and coordinate
numerous other events, many of which were new to the community.
- Secured
bid to host the NAACP Midwest Region III Conference for the
first time
- Initiated
and helped to establish the Champaign County Sports Commission
consisting of County representatives with an interest in sports,
marketing and business
- Worked
with the National Softball Association (NSA) to host Champaign
County's first-ever NSA Girl's State Softball Tournament in
June 2002
- Created
"Illini Fridays" to promote the wearing/decorating
of University of Illinois colors to help support and show enthusiasm
for University of Illinois athletics and academic programs
- Worked
with the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) to host the
first AJGA National Junior Golf Tournament at Champaign Country
Club in August 2002
- Organized
charity fundraisers that dovetailed with local sporting events,
helping to raise awareness and generate money for non-profit
organizations
- Helped
coordinate the first U.S. high school wheelchair basketball
camp in conjunction with the IHSA and the University of Illinois
Rehabilitation Department
- Consistently
selected by the media to represent the CVB and its interests
through formal and informal interviews
Sara is creative, innovative and has just a tremendous amount
of good energy. She understands that events dont just happen,
it takes a lot of planning and attention to detail. Shes
fun to work with, and strives to please.
