Originally from Casey, Illinois, Sara Seed has always been a person with ambition and conviction, beginning with her desire to play tennis in a community that barely had a tennis court. She took up the game at age 12, which is late by tennis standards, and began traveling up to 2 hours each way for workouts with her coach in Indianapolis. At age 14, she had a Western ranking and began traveling all over the country to compete in tennis tournaments on a national and regional level. By age 17, she had earned a national ranking in the top 100 U.S.T.A. 18 and under junior girls division.

While attending Casey-Westfield High School, Sara was a four-time state qualifier in women's tennis and became the school's individual record holder in all individual tennis categories as well as the record-holder for most regular season wins (66-1). These records still stand today. When she wasn't playing tennis, Sara was busy establishing herself on the basketball court where she started varsity all four years, was a three-time MVP and is the current record-holder for most career points scored in basketball.

In 1981, Sara became the first female student from Casey-Westfield High School to receive a collegiate athletic scholarship, being recruited for both women's tennis and basketball. Ultimately, she accepted a tennis scholarship at Miami University in Ohio.

As a freshman, Sara was on the fast track and it was during her quest to win a Mid-American Conference Championship singles title that she sustained an injury that would change her life. She went on to win the MAC championship in singles, despite intense pain, and for the next year and a half she continued to try and play through the injury. She was named co-captain her junior year before she was forced to leave the tennis court for good. Four years later, Sara was diagnosed with a rare disease of the skeletal system—a disease that after five back surgeries continues to plague her life today.

Sara went on to finish her degree at Miami of Ohio, staying active in her Greek sorority and setting her sights on being a physical education teacher. As with every position she has ever held, Sara put her heart and soul into being the best teacher possible. She developed innovative programs and activities to reach a diverse population of students, reaching out to those who were dealing with life-altering situations. These efforts did not go unnoticed. Sara received the highest professional rating possible for 10 years and in 1992 she was named Teacher of the Year at Champaign Centennial High School—the first physical education teacher to ever receive this coveted award.

It was during her tenure as a teacher that Sara began to deliver motivational messages using her varied life experiences as a backdrop. She continued to speak professionally on a part-time basis when she assumed the position of Director of Sports and Special Events for the Champaign County Convention and Visitors Bureau, a position she held just prior to founding Sara Seed Promotions LLC.
